Three dreadful words were used to describe the weather conditions for Saturday, the 7th of June……HAZY, HOT, and HUMID!!!
But, neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor hail…or in this case, extreme heat, was going to put a damper on a day of fun filled day that had been planned for the community of PSA 402 in the 4th District.
The Riggs Park Community day was organized by Officer Adriane Wilson and Officer Heather Straker; several committed citizens of PSA 402 assisted with the planning as well.
The exciting event which was held at the new Riggs LaSalle Community Center had lots of food and activities for all ages.
Many residents got their first look at the inside of the (new) Riggs LaSalle Community Center as they played basketball, table tennis, pool, & air hockey.
Other indoor activities that took place were: Hand Dancing, Bingo, and Face Painting.
EMS was on hand to take blood pressure and perform blood glucose testing.
Many children braved the outdoor heat as they enjoyed the five (5) moon bounces that were available.
The intense temperatures encouraged all ages to take advantage of the outdoor splash park, one of the many amenities at the new recreation center.
The Metropolitan Police Department (Special Operations Division) captivated the attention of the community by displaying some special equipment that many people may never have the opportunity to see up close.
SOD made available officers from Mobile Crime, Air Support, Mounted Patrol, and Harbor Patrol.
Officer from each of the above units arrived with their respective equipment.
Special thanks to the following Patrol Officers of MPD:
Officer Heather Straker (4D)
Officer Adriane Wilson (4D)
Officer Courtney Clark (4D)
Officer William Brandon (4D)
Officer Tracy Jackson (7D)
